Panel Presentation on C-Suite Needs from Healthcare Information Technology

Panel Presentation on C-Suite Needs from Healthcare Information Technology

C-Suite Resources was asked to participate as a facilitator for a keynote session at the 2014 Midwest Fall Technology Conference (Chicago, IL). The facilitator assisted in conducting an executive panel discussion titled, “What the C-Suite Needs from Healthcare Information Technology”. The keynote session was attended by several hundred healthcare industry professionals.

The distinguished panel consisted of the following executives:

  • Dr. Larry Goodman, CEO, Rush University Medical Center
  • Dennis Fine, COO, DuPage Medical Group
  • Lydia Splan, VP Scheduling and Physician Referral, Northwestern Memorial Healthcare

In order to make this keynote session relevant and timely for the executive discussion, a survey was developed by C-Suite Resources* to complement the planned discussion. Based on current industry trends and material leveraged from industry literature, survey questions were selected. In planning for the 90-minute panel discussion, a number of tasks were completed to synchronize both the survey and the planned questions for the panel:

  • Developed panel discussion questions
  • Oriented and reviewed the topics with the panelists to prepare them for the session
  • Designed, developed and conducted a survey of healthcare CEOs, CMOs, CNOs and other executives regarding their views on the topic
  • Compiled and analyzed the results; prepared a presentation of findings to be included in the executive panel presentation and discussion
  • Facilitated and ran the executive panel

The survey of hospital/health system executives produced some interesting findings regarding C-suite executive views of IT that were shared with the industry. For example:

  • More than half the survey respondents saw their IT investments as providing high, measurable value to their organizations
  • Respondents cited key barriers to IT effectiveness, including type of IT solutions, business relationships with vendors, budget/investment levels and healthcare IT experience

Attendee ratings for the panel were as follows: (Rating scale is Poor / Fair / Good / Excellent / Outstanding)

  • Outstanding 28.6%
  • Excellent 42.9%
  • Good 35.9%
  • Fair 2.6%
  • Poor 0%

Attendee comments:

  • “What a wonderful opportunity to hear from strategic leaders. Thank you for making this available to attendees.”
  • “Well done. I like the way that you linked the survey responses to the panel questions.”
  • “The panel was good and they shared good information.”
  • “It was good to see that their comments were consistent with what I’m hearing from my company’s C-suite.”

*C-Suite Resources worked with The Kiran Consortium Group, Inc., to develop an executive survey with questions that would then be applied to the keynote session discussion.
